A SBA member is looking for information on the following two Smokey Bear silver coins with interest in purchasing the larger five ounce Smokey Coin. Please click on the underlined header above to leave a reply.
The description of the coin: Obverse (Heads); ONLY YOU CAN HELP across the top of the coin, Shoulders and head of Smokey wearing SMOKEY campaign hat in the middle. Left side of coin FIVE TROY OUNCES, a U.S. Forest Service Shield/Badge lower center of coin and .999 FINE SILVER on the right side of coin. The reverse (tails) of coin: top portion of coin has mountains in the background, two pine trees to left side of coin, an Elk in top center of coin, and Lodgepole pine and two tree trunks on the right side of the coin. The lower third of the coin has the words GREATER YELLOWSTONE top line, NATIONAL FORESTS next line, the third line FIRE RECOVERY, and 1988 – 1991 at the 4th line or bottom of the coin. My understanding is the coins came in a one ounce and a five ounce. The one ounce is about 1.5 inches in diameter while the 5 oz. probably is about 2 1/2 to 3 inches indiameter.
